Description
Somi MSD Player English Willow Cricket Bat
~ Players-grade MSD willow, one step below the MSD 7.
The Somi MSD Player sits just below the MSD 7 at the top of Somi's MSD series: a short-handle English willow bat for serious leather-ball batters who want a players-grade bat with a mid-level bulge, thick edges and a light, balanced pickup.
Somi is the bat label of Somi Kohli, the Indian bat maker behind BAS, whose workshop built bats for MS Dhoni, including the lighter bat Dhoni asked for at the 2019 World Cup.
Why Players Choose the MSD Player
Players-grade English willow
As one of the top two bats in the Somi lineup, the MSD Player gets premium hand-selected willow.
Mid-level bulge for every shot
The meat of the bat sits mid-blade, so it rewards both front-foot drives and back-foot pulls and cuts.
Thick, contoured edges
Edges run roughly 36-40mm and are contoured to keep the thickness behind the sweet spot, so mistimed shots still carry.

FAQ Section
Q1: What is the Somi MSD Player? It is a players-grade English willow bat in Somi's MSD series, second only to the MSD 7: a short-handle players bat with a mid-level bulge and thick edges.
Q2: Is this the bat MS Dhoni uses? The MSD name links the series to MS Dhoni, whose bats Somi Kohli has made. This is a retail bat built in the same style; we do not claim it is a bat Dhoni has used in matches.
Q3: How is the MSD Player different from the MSD Punch and MSD Hitter? All three share the MSD mid-bulge shape. The MSD Player gets the better willow, the MSD Punch sits a step below, and the MSD Hitter is the value entry. Only the MSD 7 sits above the MSD Player.
Q4: What weight will I get? Choose Light (2lbs 7oz - 2lbs 8oz) or Medium (2lbs 9oz - 2lbs 10oz). Every bat is a natural cleft, so call us if you want the exact weight of a specific bat.
Q5: What grade of willow is it? Somi does not publish a grade stamp for this model, so we do not print one. Ask us and we will check the grains on the actual bat in stock.
Q6: Does this bat need knocking in? Yes. Like every English willow bat, knock it in for 4-6 hours with a bat mallet and play throw-downs with an old ball before it faces a new leather ball.
