Description

SG Sunny Tonny Junior / Youth English Willow Cricket Bat

This is the junior version of SG's Sunny Tonny, the range named for Sunil Gavaskar, available here in size 5 and size 6. It is genuine English willow rather than a Kashmir starter blade, which matters once a young player is facing a hard leather ball regularly. SG has been making cricket equipment since 1931 out of Meerut, India.

Why Players Choose the Sunny Tonny Junior

Getting the size right is the single most important decision in a junior bat. A blade that is too long or too heavy drags the hands down and builds a bottom-handed technique that takes years to unpick. Size 5 and size 6 cover most players between roughly 4ft 6in and 5ft 3in, though height is a far better guide than age.

Both sizes here are in light weight bands appropriate to the length, so the player can hold their shape through the shot. Because it is English willow, the blade gives real rebound off the middle once knocked in rather than deadening the ball.

FAQ Section

Q1: How do I pick between size 5 and size 6? Stand the bat upright beside the player. If the top of the handle sits around the hip, the size is right. Size 6 is the larger of the two.

Q2: Should I size up so it lasts longer? No. An oversized bat is the most common cause of a young batter developing bottom-hand-dominant technique.

Q3: Does a junior bat need knocking in? Yes. English willow needs knocking in and gradual net use at any size before facing a hard leather ball.

Q4: Is English willow worth it for a junior? If they play hard-ball cricket, yes. It performs properly, which matters while technique is forming.

Q5: How do I look after it? Oil the face lightly with raw linseed a couple of times a season, keep an anti-scuff sheet and toe guard on, and store it dry and away from heat.

Q6: What comes after size 6? Harrow, then full adult short handle. We stock the Sunny Tonny in both.

Q7: Do you ship from the US? Yes. Every order ships from our Edison, New Jersey location, with free US shipping on orders over $100.
