Hand-Selected Willow: We verify every cleft for grain structure and balance.

Full Range: Available in Grade 1+ (Pro) down to durable Grade 3 (Club level)."

The grade of willow is generally determined by the visual appearance and grain structure of the wood:

Grade 1+ (Player Edition): This is the absolute best willow available, often reserved for international pros. It features 8-12+ straight, even grains and a playing face free from blemishes.

Grade 1 (Top Tier): Premium quality designed for serious league cricketers. You can expect 6-9 straight grains with exceptional performance and ping, though there may be very minor specks.

Grade 2 (Performance): Offers excellent value and near-Grade 1 performance at a better price. These typically have 5-7 grains and may show minor blemishes or "redwood" on the edges, which can actually aid durability.

Grade 3 (Club Level): Known as the "workhorse" grade for weekend warriors. These bats usually have 4-6 grains with more visible markings or butterfly stains, but they are durable and offer great power-to-price value.

The grade primarily influences the bat's "ping" (rebound) and pickup:

  • Performance: Higher grades (like Grade 1+) typically offer superior rebound and a lighter pickup, which helps with timing and power.
  • Durability: Lower grades (like Grade 3) are often denser and more durable, making them excellent choices for heavy hitting or daily practice.

Beyond the grade, look for craftsmanship details like the handle construction. Traditional round cane handles with cork inserts are often used to provide superior shock absorption and flexibility.

The grade primarily determines the bat's "ping" (rebound) and weight distribution. Higher grades (like Grade 1+) offer superior rebound and a lighter pickup, allowing for better timing and power with less effort. Lower grades (Grade 3 or 4) are often denser and more durable, making them excellent "workhorse" bats for heavy hitting or daily practice.

Yes. While many bats come with a basic factory press, they are usually not fully knocked in. To prevent damage and ensure the willow performs correctly, it is highly recommended to have the bat professionally machine knocked before using it in a match.
